Gold Cup Video on Sunday at San Diego

The Washington Mutual Thunderboat Regatta.

What a boat race!  So much racing goin' on that you can't see it all (I've still never gotten down there to watch those drag boats...).  However, on Sunday, I was treated to the best seat in the house, from which I could take in all the racing.  At a glance.  Thanks to Rich Aylesworth, team manager of the UL-5 team, and ULHRA chief videographer, Steve Maggard, I was able to spend most of Sunday in the  helicopter with course-Judge, Phil Bononcini.  Rich had arraigned for Steve to go up and shoot from the chopper, and Steve very graciously gave the opportunity to me.  Thanks Rich and Steve.

So here are the first few of the photos.  There'll be more.  Hope you enjoy.                  --Mark with a 'K'--

Joe Turner's UL-18 is dwarfed by the T-10, 'York presents Miss EMCOR' pitted next to him.  Joe also deserves the "Longest name for a race boat, ever" award with his 'Jackie's Purple Thunder presents Pacific Rim Brewing and Baker equipment'.
The guy responsible for all that great video; Steve Maggard.  Thanks again, Steve!
Jim Hightower and his great rescue crew.  Pretty cool boat, too...
Brian Perkins, in the UL-136, 'Perkins Glass presents La Cucaracha IV', leads Paul Becker, UL-14, 'Miss Software Prototype', and Harold Mills, 'Red Dot Salutes the U.S. Marines' down the back-chute in the final.

Michael Flaherty in the UL-51, 'Miss Boat Electric'.
Vince Xaudaro drove his UL-929, 'Team Chapman/Lake Havasu City Real Estate', to a third place finish.
Paul Becker, drives his UL-14, 'Miss Software Prototype' through the infield prior to the start of the final heat...

... as does Harold Mills in the Thunder Valley boat; UL-40, 'Red Dot Salutes the U.S. Marines'.
UL-'51', and UL-72, 'Graham Trucking-Red Rocket' fight for lanes.
UL-51 and UL- 40 in the final.
George Woods, Jr., in the UL-72, 'Graham Trucking-Red Rocket' waves to the crowd during his victory lap after winning the final heat of the 'Washington Mutual Thunderboat Regatta'.
The UL-5, 'Sycuan Resort & Casino', with owner Kevin Aylesworth at the helm cuts directly under the chopper on his way to the B-main win.
