Early Notice:
2007 Season Awards:
The 2007 Season
ULHRA Awards Program will be conducted in
Tacoma WA on Saturday, January 19th, 2008.
The location will be the Temple Ballroom of
the Landmark Convention Center.
Corsa Instruments; newest ULHRA Contingency
Awards Sponsor
Imagine sitting in front of your personal
computer watching the video stream broadcast of
a ULHRA event. Now imagine sitting in or near
the pit area watching the same broadcast only
this time you can also see critical information
about the individual boat that you are crewing
on in real time! Data and information such as
speed in miles per hour, engine revolutions per
minute and oil pressure in pounds. Anywhere from
ten to fifty channels of information can be
transmitted via radio to a team’s p.c. from
their boat through the use of a data logger
manufactured by Corsa Instruments of Ann Arbor,
Michigan. This technology has been available and
effectively utilized by the automotive
motorsport industry for years. What makes
Corsa’s version particularly suitable for marine
motorsports is the fact that it is waterproof.
It has already seen some limited use in Offshore
racing and what may be interesting to the
hydroplane community is the fact that this
system retains the capability to measure the
angle of attack of the lifting plane of the trim
tabs in common use for displacement hulls. This
sensor development could possibly marry well
with the hydroplanes canard control surface and
afford a method to measure the changing angles
in real time and to record. This particular
information is extremely difficult to measure
and record due to the fact that it is virtually
impossible to observe from shore and the
driver’s reflexes are usually so automatic he or
she often doesn’t realize they are activating
it.
These and other promising options are what
compelled Erik Kauppi of Corsa Instruments to
enlist as the latest Contingency Awards sponsor
for the 2007 season. Competitors displaying the
Corsa logo on either side of their canopy will
earn credits toward the purchase of Corsa
products after they make a top six place finish
in the final heat of any race on the 2007 ULHRA
circuit. "We found that the rigors of hydroplane
competition provide a good platform to
demonstrate the robustness of our products."
said Kauppi, "we are looking forward to working
hand in hand with the teams as they enhance
their performance using Corsa products." For
