UL-58 display photos!  (Gallery 2 of 2)
Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Dawn from the UL-58 team we are pleased to present the second of two galleries featuring the UL-58.  This gallery takes a look at the UL-58's appearance at the Roostertail in Detroit during a fundraiser dinner benefiting the Thunderfest committee.

"We displayed Union Dooz at the Thunderfest fund-raising event on Friday night, March 7, at the Roostertail.  The Rooster Tail did a wonderful job with the food and drinks, and the band, The Sun Messengers, was excellent.  Michael Schoenith posed for some pictures with Union Dooz and Ping and I.  He was an excellent host.  A good time was had by all, and I can only hope that the event helped the Thunderfest Committee with their financial problems to some extent.  They seem confident that there will be a race this year. There was a silent auction there, in which they had many pictures of Unlimiteds for auction, and other memorabilia type items such as autographed hats and whatnot. Also they were offering to have your picture taken with the Gold Cup for a fee of $25.00.  Have a good Spring. For all of us in Michigan, it can't get here soon enough." - Dawn Barnes, Team Manager Union Dooz UL-58

A closer look at the ULHRA's new marketing representative...
The ULHRA's new Marketing Representative, Gary Adams, and his company Premiere Productions, brings a wealth of experience to the task of growing sponsorship and business involvement with the Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association.

Premiere Productions LLC has been selling sponsorships, producing and managing special events such as the Washington State Golf Expo, and working in the marketing realm for the past 9 years. Premiere has placed sponsors in events throughout the U.S. Premiere's principal, Gary Adams, has owned the broadcast rights to the Seattle Thunderbirds (Hockey) Washington State High School basketball tournaments, Tacoma Stars (Indoor Soccer) and the radio rights to the National Hot Rod Association (producing the first ever radio network with John Lynch as the "Voice" of the broadcasts). Premiere utilizes contract resources as needed in the marketing of events and production of special events. Premiere Productions LLC also managed the Union Station in Seattle, managing and producing over 100 events per year.

To take advantage of the many and varied opportunities to promote your business with the Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association, contact Gary Adams at premiere11@hotmail.com.

Ping Conflitti joins the Board of Directors of the ULHRA
"The ULHRA Board has elected Ping Conflitti from the UL-58 team to serve the balance of the one year term on the ULHRA Board of Directors vacated by Carl Haas. We look forward to Ping's contribution to our efforts to move the sport forward in our long term plan to expand our fan base to all ages." - Joe Frauenheim, President ULHRA

New Appointment to the Administration
Executive Vice President and General Manager of the ULHRA, Pat Malara, has announced a new appointment to the organization's administration.

Gary Adams of Premiere Productions Inc., a Seattle area marketing firm, has been named Marketing Representative for the Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association. Adams' addition to the administration formalizes an agreement in principle that was reached in late 2002. Adams succeeds Bo Darling in the lead marketing position for the series. Darling remains active with the association but as a retired business executive asked to be relieved of the primary marketing duties that he assumed when the ULHRA was formed in the fall of year 2000. His successes, including attracting sponsorships and new race site agreements, are numerous.

VP Malara said the appointment of Adams and his company is "another positive step in growing the ULHRA. It provides the association with a professional marketing services company to build upon what's been developed over the past two years".

The series has advanced steadily. There were 7 races and 14 race teams competing in 2001, and those figures grew to 8 races and 19 teams in 2002. New teams announced are expected to again increase the number of competitors in ULHRA competition. Plus the addition of Port Angeles WA provides a new race venue that extends the season into the month of October. Malara added that Adams and his company will focus on developing new ULHRA series sponsorships, but can also assist race sites and race teams in developing marketing strategies.

"Pingree and Dawn have been working hard on the east coast to promote the ULHRA.  UL-58 Hard Hat Racing had the Union Dooz in the Autorama Show on display and more recently displayed the boat at a fund raiser to help generate money for racing in Detroit.  Thanks to the entire UL-58 team for all of their great support.  Tri Cities here we come!"
  - Pat Malara, ULHRA Vice President-General Manager

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Dawn from the UL-58 team we are pleased to present the first of two galleries featuring the UL-58.  This gallery takes a look at the UL-58's appearance at the Autorama Show.

Join us for a day of testing in Tri-Cities!
Working with Emily Janikowski of the Tri-City Water Follies (found on the web at www.columbiacup.com), the Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Series is proud to announce spring testing dates set to take place in Tri-Cities, Washington on May 9th and 10th. This is a Friday and Saturday. The series opted to avoid testing on Sunday to honor Mother's day.

This test session will be open to all Unlimited Light Teams as well as any limited teams who wish to attend. A crane and rescue team will be on site for the event.  Local media should be on hand covering the event and we invite friends and fans of the series to join us. This event is a nice kick-off to the 2003 season and it is our hope that it will become a regular feature of the ULHRA schedule.

Home away from home... Making teams comfortable on the road!
ULHRA Events Coordinator Jeanne Miller is working on putting together an area at each of the race sites that the teams can use to prepare lunches, get something to drink or just take a break during an event.  A great idea as the first race of 2003 approaches!  Jeanne will be in touch with the teams with additional details as the season gets closer.

You've read his columns...
John Lynch, the VOICE of the ULHRA, has been named the Public Relations Director for the ULHRA.  John will be working with the race sites to put together any information, pre and post race, that they need.  John will also be working with the Public Relations Directors from each of the sites in an effort to support their needs when it comes to the Lights.  John hopes to be able to spark more media interest in the Unlimited Lights and it's our goal, as a series, to get more press, more radio exposure and more television exposure.  The ULHRA offer's its thanks to John for taking on the job!

Big things are taking place at Detroit's Roostertail Restaurant!
In the downtown Detroit (Michigan) area this weekend?  Don't miss the UL-58 Union Dooz.  It will be on display at the Roostertail Restaurant this Friday night (3/7/03).  Fox 2 news has asked the team to display the boat for a fundraiser dinner that the Thunderfest committee is putting on.  The Unlimited Lights were more than please to take part in the festivities and look forward to continuing their proud tradition of hydroplane racing on the Detroit river.

Dawn Barnes of the UL-58 team had this to say about the display... "This is a chance to get Union Dooz out there and try to help Thunderfest.  We will proudly display the ULHRA name on the boat and I will be sure to take pictures and send some for the site!"

The fundraising dinner, which will take place at 7:00 PM, will include interaction with several boat racing celebrities!  The cost is $100 and it is a black tie optional event. Call (313) 822-1234 for more information.
