Race Press Release from the UL-15! Today, Jerry Hopp, driver and owner of the UL-15 Freddie's Club Lite, showed that one blown engine does not a looser make. The Hopp Racing team has two engines available for its yellow boat. Although the fastest engine was damaged in qualifying yesterday, Hopp still managed to take two seconds in preliminary heats and third in the final today at Seattle's Seafair race. This puts him in third place for the series' owner's trophy, with only 11 points between him and Dave Bender in second place He is in fourth in driver's points with just over 100 points below Randy Haas in third place. In Heat 1A, Hopp took second in a come from behind dash in lap two. His average speed was 96.071 mph. Then in Heat 2A, he managed to fend off all but the Budweiser Pocket Mechanic, who narrowly took the first from him. His average speed was 99.339 in that heat. Hopp credits today's success to the hard work of his team, whom many spent until 1 p.m. replacing the blown motor last night. After the final, Hopp jumped from the cockpit of the Freddie's Club Lite to qualify in the U-20 Golden Nugget Casino for tomorrow's General Motor's Unlimited Hydroplane Cup race. Hopp managed to bring the U-20 up to just over 136 mph last week in Tri-Cities, WA. When driver Dick Lynch was unable to qualify as a driver this week, Jerry stepped in to get the boat into competition. The next
stop for the UL-15 Freddie's Club Lite will be in Pateros, WA on Aug.
