My name says "senior member" under, but I didn't put it. I see some new members that have the same title. Is this something you can change yourself? I thought it indicated members that have been in the forum for a long time.

It's based on post count. You can change it from Junior Member or from Senior Member to a custom title at https://www.boatdesign.net/account/personal-details

(The post count threshold that changes the default user title from New Member -> Junior Member -> Senior Member might need to be increased, or a new tier added between Junior Member and Senior Member.)

I like the idea of a middle tier. Maybe something like "Initiate" or after Senior, "Veteran".

It sounds like the custom title feature can be used to change status to "Senior" prematurely. Can the custom feature be made availing only to senior members? Something to look foreward to when you join.

I've been sending an SOS for months under my name and no one has responded.
That's okay, I'm not really in distress.
    As you were.

I changed my title. I don’t think Senior is a title that ought to be given after x number of posts. Certainly, some designers are not worthy of their titles, but at least the reader has an idea of who they are reading.

Maybe I need to change my title to title critic..hehe

We can put whatever we want in the title, but people get an idea of what we are, what we know and our real experience, from the comments we make. So, in my opinion, the title is useless. Let everyone put what their ego tells them.

But anything, even if we give it the title "rose", does not have to be a rose.

The issue is that we want to avoid confusion by allowing members to call a rose an 'iris,' thereby misleading other members who already think of an iris as an iris instead of a rose. Don't want to go picking irises only to be stabbed by a rose thorn because it was mislabeled.

I'm not really sure, but I'll try hard to get it.

Gonna have to change mine to "hitter of old rusty boats with hammers". That's probably the most accurate description of what I've done professionally for the last 20 years.
