I think there should be a silly category for the threads and posts of some members that will remain unnamed. Maybe a sub-category of troll could be included. If it pleases and amuses the moderator, said threads could be transfered to the category

You mean for posts that are as prolific and useful as the current temu spam....

There are those that would qualify.
Not necessarily threads, but there are posts that might need transferring without disturbing the whole thread.

Of course, that might make the content even more disjointed and lacking in context than it already is. Although, most of the time, that would probably be what qualified said posts for relocation.

What do you mean Temu spam? I just maxed my credit card.

I think that some threads are full of so many far fetched claims and conspiracy theories that they should be corraled in their own section. We can occasionally amuse ourselves perusing through them.

At the time you posted the website was being spammed with temu coupon threads. It looks like it's been fixed.

That's the conundrum, the topics are of interest and with reasoned responses seem to have the capacity for value. Sadly it devolves almost immediately into a fever dream of rambling minimally cogent albeit rather bellicose ideas.

Pity, some of the replies that appear well thought out are fun to read like the efficacy of internet forums 15 years ago.

There are a couple of trolls posting lengthy rants.

We would be endanger of creating a thread even longer than the Multihull Structural Thoughts thread. There might be a lot to peruse. But, we could bookmark our favorite posts and put a voting list for the most popular at the top. Really have some fun with it.

They are weird, like a motorcycle with a sidecar. I am sure I can fit a motor in one though.

Who decides what is trolling or silly? What if I don't agree?

My OCD demands symmetry. With one well-earned exception they trip my weird-o-meter.
Jzerro, a proa expertly sailed by Ryan Finn set a solo New York to San Francisco (wrong way around Cape Horn) record a couple years ago.

BDNet is a representative democracy. We vote and our representatives (moderators) decide if our votes count. Or, they take it up in committee. Very efficient, and everyone's happy.

Currently if a post is way off topic it may be split into its own thread or moved to the All Things Boats & Boating forum for example. But it's a balance. Splitting or moving too many posts can create more problems, discontinuity, lost opportunity for reply, hurt feelings, etc. In practice, at this volume, I'm not sure that adding a categoryfor silly posts would solve more problems than it would create.
