What will you be using the ABS plastic component for, after you coat it with epoxy?
    And how big is it?
Can you post a photo of it?
Google tells me that ABS is "resistant to abrasion, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations"; it also "can be easily molded, machined, and painted, making it suitable for a wide range of applications."
I am thinking that you could try 'scuffing up' (or sanding) a small area with some fairly rough sandpaper - hopefully this would create a rough surface (?) where you could then test out an application of some epoxy?

I’ve not attempted bonding ABS with epoxy, but epoxy to PVC has been a total failure despite significant mechanical key prep. I recommend using Black Mamba FHG which a friend says will bond owl **** to goose poop or some such..

Polyesters and VE bond very good to ABS if the correct solvent is used. Or, you buy these bonding resins with the correct solvents already added.

Duratec primers bond to ABS right out of the can.
