Notes: The season started off
with a bang, literally. UL-10 and UL-16 collided. UL-110 flipped, but
Randy was okay. Then six teams worked on the boat and put it back on the
water for the final! UL-23 sustained heavy damage due to the rough water
and did not make the next race.

Notes: Once again, two ULs hit
while racing, UL-10 and UL-16, but it did not impede the UL-10’s win. As
soon as Wiggins returned to the dock, he checked for damage.

Notes: At the beginning of
the weekend, the UL-23 could be found at the River House still repairing
the damage sustained in Lake Havasu. The final heat saw Wiggins grab the
inside lane and hold off Schide in a very tight race. Cal Phipps in the
UL-23 had the entire crowd behind him as he struggled and eventually made
it across the finish line for fifth place.

problems at the start and shut down in the first corner to save the
equipment.

Notes: Quote by Randy Haas,
"We keep tearing stuff up. I tore the canard off of it, I tore the
cowling off of it, and I tore the wings off of it. It's been a hard road
to go, but everybody keeps pitching in and working. We've finally done
it."

Notes: UL-10 was on the inside,
but lacked the power to hold off the UL-16. Schide took the Alamo to
the win and the points race seesawed the entire day with UL-16 coming out
ahead at the end.

Notes: Bo Schide and Charley
Wiggins put on an outstanding show in the final. UL-10 Earl's Performance
Products and UL-16 Alamo were side by side for most of three laps. Charley
had the inside and Bo had the outside. A great race for the UL final in
San Diego. The UL-16 pulled ahead and took the race in the end.
A point worth noting is the exceptional effort of the UL-110 team and the
other crews that jumped in to get the UL-110 Miss CompAir back on the
water. After flipping the boat, it's a feat to see them take a strong 3rd
place.
Hawaii
Here are the results of the UL
final. Randy Haas in the UL-110 Miss CompAir took off and never looked
back, securing his second win of the season. The boats behind him had some
problems, though. The GNH-9 Aloha Hyundai, with Paul Droullard, had to
shut down after the first lap due to the rough water. The UL-23 had
serious problems as JW Myers shut the boat down and then it started
sinking. They did get the boat back to the dock and JW was fine, but when
it was lifted out of the water, there was a hole about 18 inches wide and
5 feet long in the bottom of the hull. Due to a flip earlier in the
day, The UL-72 Pocket Mechanic was unable to make to final. Phil
Bonocini was uninjured in the accident.
