Seattle 1996

TEXACO CUP AT SEAFAIR, Seattle

The western portion of the abbreviated 1996 ULRS series (Tri-Cities and San Diego opted not to present the crowd pleasers) came down to Seattle and Kelowna within a two-week span in early August. As he did in '95 at Tri-Cities and Seattle, Brian Reynolds of Olympia, Wash., the "Flyin' Hawaiian," came out to defend the honor of the Pacific Northwest -- and succeeded. His Seafirst Bank-sponsored boat dusted off Randy Haas and the Miss Leroi, with Dennis Macy just a hair behind Haas in The Menace for third place.

The championship final came out this way:

1. Brian Reynolds, Seafirst Bank, Olympia WA; 2. Randy Haas, Miss Leroi, Toledo OH; 3. Dennis Macy, The Menace, Garden City MI; 4. Dave Bender, Miss Personal Touch, El Dorado CA; 5. Jerry Hopp, Graham Trucking, Snohomish WA; DNF--Mark Weber, Red Dog Beer, St. Clair Shores MI; Rick Bridgeman, Shockwave, Olympia WA; Paul Droullard, Performance Mortgage, Seattle WA. Winner's Average Speed--85.756 mph.
